Open House Rehearsal

If you played in college but haven’t touched your instrument in years, now may be the time to open that case!

The APO is actively seeking string — especially violin and double bass — trumpet, French horn, and trombone players, as well as percussionists to help us fill out our sections and develop our repertoire. Our recruiting committee will be inviting prospective new members to join our rehearsal on August 17 to give us a chance to meet each other and see if there is a good fit.

We are a community orchestra, so no audition is required. However, we do play some challenging pieces and therefore a minimum of superior high school experience is preferred. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and GLBT-friendly straight musicians are all welcome.

2010-2011 Season Highlights

The Atlanta Philharmonic’s sixth season starts in September with Dvorak’s “From the New World” Symphony and later presents Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony. Soloists this season include violinist Andrew Sord and Adam Frey on euphonium, as well as our bassoon section leader Joe Sarra. Look for us at the 40th Atlanta Pride Festival in October and appearing again at the Mozart for Motorheadsfestival in Stone Mountain next spring.

You can find concert dates and program details on the new Concerts page of our reorganized website. More information about each performance, such as bios of our soloists and program notes, will be posted as the date nears.

We are delighted that Mirna Ogrizovic-Ciric returns as conductor, and during this season, we will also be undergoing a formal search for a concertmaster. “I’ve been with the orchestra since the first concert in 2005,” said APO President James D. Goodwin, “and I have to say that this orchestra has grown by leaps and bounds since then.”

Please consider becoming a Friend of the APO to enjoy discounted ticket pricing and to show your support of this organization.

We look forward to sharing fine music with you!
