The APO is an all-volunteer symphony orchestra organized to serve the musical needs of both the audience and members. Membership is open to gay men, lesbians, bisexual, transgendered people, and GLBT sensitive individuals. Membership is open, inclusive, and is permitted according to a policy of complete non-discrimination. The APO's primary objectives are:
- Education - to strenghten the playing abilities of its members and to increase the musical knowledge of its audiences.
- Entertainment - to provide high quality arts entertainment for the Atlanta area and Georgia residents.
- Fellowship - to provide a forum for exchange for musical and other information among its members and supporters.
- Affirmation - to provide a positive statement to he public at large concerning the talents and capabilities within the GLBT community.
- Growth - participate in the growth of GLBT identified symphony orchestras in other cities, both domestically and internationally.
