About the APO

What is your mission statement?

The APO is an all-volunteer symphony orchestra organized to serve the musical needs of both the audience and members.  Membership is open to gay men, lesbians, bisexual, transgendered people, and GLBT sensitive individuals.  Membership is open, inclusive, and is permitted according to a policy of complete non-discrimination.  The APO's primary objectives are:

  • Education - to strenghten the playing abilities of its members and to increase the musical knowledge of its audiences.
  • Entertainment - to provide high quality arts entertainment for the Atlanta area and Georgia residents.
  • Fellowship - to provide a forum for exchange for musical and other information among its members and supporters.
  • Affirmation - to provide a positive statement to he public at large concerning the talents and capabilities within the GLBT community.
  • Growth - participate in the growth of GLBT identified symphony orchestras in other cities, both domestically and internationally.

 

Are auditions required to play in the Atlanta Philharmonic?

The APO welcomes adult musicians with high school- or college-level ensemble playing experience.

No audition is required, but the conductor reserves the right to hear members play for seating purposes.

How do I become a friend of the APO?

Become a sponsor of the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra!  As a not-for-profit community orchestra we operate with limited financial resources.  Your sponsorship will help us defray the costs associated with purchasing music, music stands, performance venue rental, and much. much more.

Sponsorship entitles you to recognition in our programs, periodic email updates, and a $5 discount at the door to future performances.

Choose the level that is right for you:

  • Orchestra Player - $50
  • Section Leader - $100
  • Concertmaster/mistress - $150
  • Virtuoso - $200
  • Maestro - $250 and up

Is the APO a non-profit organization?

The APO is a non-profit organization as defined by Section 501(c)3 under Federal code.  All donations are tax deductible.
