About the Position
The Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) is searching for an Associate Conductor — an engaging, collaborative musician with a passion for the classical repertoire and an interest in contemporary music, committed to joy in music-making and professionalism in relationships.
This is an independent contractor position, paid a stipend per concert cycle (5–6 concerts per year). The ideal candidate is local to Decatur or the greater Metro Atlanta area and available Tuesday evenings from approximately August to June.

What to Expect After You Apply
- Application review: Our search committee reviews all applications received by the deadline.
- Interview: Selected applicants are invited to a brief interview in July-August
- Finalist audition: A small group of finalists will each be invited to lead one full concert cycle (approximately seven rehearsals plus the cycle’s concert) with the orchestra, giving both the finalist and our members a genuine sense of working together. This will occur during the 2026-2027 concert season.
We anticipate the selected Associate Conductor will begin at the start of the 2027–2028 season.
